In recent years, steel grades that can significantly improve atmospheric corrosion resistance have gradually been used in bridges, vehicles, and buildings. However, such weathering steels usually contain precious alloy elements such as Ni and Cr, which limits their large-scale market applications. Through continuous cooling phase transformation behavior research, a low-cost 0.8Si-0.8Al weather-resistant steel plate without alloying elements was trial-produced, and the microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the trial steel plate were explored to provide guidance for industrial applications.
Researchers at the Iron and Steel Research Institute of Jiangsu Province have developed a low-cost aluminum-silicon weathering steel that does not contain precious alloy elements by simulating continuous cooling phase transformation behavior and resistance to atmospheric corrosion. Its ability to resist atmospheric corrosion is better than SPA-H and SM490-A. Increased by 15% and 72%, respectively, thanks to the formation of FeAl2O4 enriched in the interior of the rust layer. Large-thickness rolling combined with air cooling results in fine-grained polygonal ferrite structure, ensuring high strength and high toughness matching of the steel plate: Re ≥ 400 MPa; Rm ≥ 500 MPa; -40° CKV ≥ 100J.
