Honeywell announced on Thursday that it has improved the performance of quantum computers to surpass IBM's level, and is currently in the world's leading position. This feat fulfilled a commitment made by the company in March this year and was also a milestone in its ambitious efforts. It is reported that Honeywell hopes to increase the computing power of its own quantum computer by 10 times every year in the next five years.

This quantum computer called H0 has a quantum volume score of 64. As an evaluation standard for measuring the total number of qubits of a machine, it is better than IBM's Raleigh machine in January this year.
The scientific community hopes that quantum computers can solve the problems that ordinary "classic" computers are difficult to overcome by virtue of the strange properties of atomic physics.
So far, research has mostly stayed on critical projects. In addition, in a narrow "quantum supremacy" test, Google found that its quantum computer performance is not as good as the classic computer.
However, with the expansion and deepening of research, combined with anti-jamming technology and the continuous growth of the number of qubits, quantum computers will eventually become more and more powerful.
Looking to the future, it is expected to play an important role in areas such as optimizing financial portfolios, machine learning, and new material design (such as photovoltaic panels and batteries).
In fact, decades ago, Honeywell was the top manufacturer of mainframes, but later sold related businesses to other companies in the industry.
A few years ago, the company quietly assembled a team of 120 researchers in Colorado and Minnesota. At the same time, it uses its expertise in materials science and industrial operations to solve problems in quantum computing.
Tony Uttley, President of Honeywell’s Quantum Computing Division, said that with the current number of H0 designs growing, it will grow from 64 today to 640000.
In view of the large remaining space, the company is also actively expanding the scale of the infrastructure, and even fills a few seats each time. In addition, the company is developing another new system called H1 to further surpass the scale of H0.
