According to the data of hardwood plywood and veneer association, the standard method for cutting veneer commonly used in the market is as follows
Rotary Cut – Install the logs in the center of the lathe, insert the knives into the logs at a slight angle, and then rotate the logs against the slicing knife to create the chopped veneer. Rotary cut veneer can be as wide as the whole plate (single piece).
Plain Slicing, Flat cut – Also known as flat cut, flat slice/flat sheet, string cut veneer refers to the parallel line of the slicing knife along the center of the log, cut out the wood chips. The string cut from the split logs, the most rounded annual rings will form a "cathedral" pattern of wood.
Quarter Slicing – The cut is the annual ring of vertical tangential logs, producing a veneer with straight lines.
Rift-Cut – The cut veneer is made from a variety of oaks. The oak pith ray is stretched from the center of the log, like the curved spokes of the wheel. The wood pulp rays of the oak are cut at a slight angle to minimize the appearance of "scale" wood grain, and to produce straight grain veneers.
Lengthwise Slicing – Place the flat saw sheet flat through a fixed slicing knife and cut the veneer from the bottom of the sheet. The texture pattern of the longitudinal cut veneer is varied.
