The Gospel New Technology for Electric Vehicle owners takes only 15 minutes to fully charge

If the cruising range of an electric vehicle can reach 1,000 kilometers in one to two years, and the charging station is also blooming like a gas station, then what reason do people have to refuse electric vehicles? The answer may be charging speed. As we all know, the charging speed is often determined by the charging power. However, according to the status quo of the industry, before considering this issue, it must be understood that the main body of discussion is Tesla or other electric vehicles. If it is Tesla, its charging method and duration are probably as follows:

It can be seen that different cars use different charging methods and have great disparity in their charging speed. However, they are obviously too slow once compared with the fuel vehicles. In accordance with the latter one to two minutes to fill the oil to run 600 to 1,000 kilometers calculation, the same time converted into an electric car mileage is also about 6,7 kilometers.

In response, scientists at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EFPL) developed a new charging system that reduced the charging time of electric vehicles from 8 hours to 15 minutes. The specific approach is to make a charging station of 4.5 megawatts possible.

In conventional circuits, 4.5 megawatts is enough to make the grid collapse. Therefore, EFPL's plan is to establish a buffer storage system at the charging station and cut off the connection to the grid when 4.5 megawatts of power are output at the same time. The image is a bit. This so-called buffer storage system is actually using a container-sized charging treasure. When the output power is low, the energy is obtained from the low-power grid, and if not, it is disconnected.

It should be pointed out that the full 15 minutes of EFPL is in fact 20 to 30 kWh of electricity, which translates into a range of 150 kilometers. After calculation, the charging power is about 80~120KW.

In fact, this performance is not really good. However, according to Alfred Rufer, an EPFL researcher, buffered storage systems are less expensive to implement in low-voltage or medium-voltage networks than conventional high-pressure solutions. In addition, if the charging station needs to recharge 200 electric vehicles every day, the capacity of this “charging treasure” will reach 2.2 MWh.
