A single charge meets the goal of 500 km driving Israel pushes the development of electric steam

According to a recent report by Israel’s No Camels website, Israel is stepping up efforts to develop a single-battery battery that meets the 500km driving energy consumption, and regards it as the main research and development task of the newly established National Electrochemical Promotion Center.

In April this year, the Israeli National Electrochemical Promotion Center was established. In the next four years, it will receive 45 million NIS (about US$11.7 million) in state budget support. The center consists of 100 researchers. They are divided into 12 groups and they are from four academic institutions: Tel Aviv University, Israel Institute of Technology, Baylan University, and Ereli Samaria Central University. The sole purpose of establishing this center is to research and develop new technologies that can more efficiently store electric energy.

The director of the research center, Professor Doren Urbach of the Department of Chemistry at Bar-Ilan University, said: "With oil and the future, there is no future. The psychiatrist's mentality has changed and this change has infiltrated into the automotive industry. Finally to the battery manufacturers. They all want to use electric vehicles. In fact, electric vehicles are now able to travel 150 kilometers, which is enough for the average Israeli, but they still want to increase the mileage of electric vehicles."

Urbach explains: “The greatest success of the modern electrochemistry discipline was the invention of a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. This is a good battery for electronic devices, but for a car, it may require many such batteries. Today, Better Place uses 300 kilograms of batteries on its electric vehicles, enough to meet the 150 kilograms of energy consumed by electric vehicles. Our goal is to increase its storage capacity without increasing weight and size.”

One problem that electric vehicle manufacturers often encounter is that the battery discharge speed is limited. In other words, the battery must release more power in a shorter time, which is required for the speeding up of electric vehicles. Therefore, the center is trying to develop a super capacitor that can supply the required energy within a predetermined time.

These capacitors can provide a solution for energy storage. Advanced high-end batteries can reduce dependence on petroleum, coal, and natural gas used to produce electricity. Solar and wind energy cannot continuously supply large amounts of electricity, which means that energy storage is one of the major challenges in the development of renewable energy.

The next stage of the development goal is to improve the current battery performance for electric vehicles, according to Ulbach, this is based on more than 100 years of technology. "The battery of an electric car can be charged and discharged hundreds of times and then discarded. This is not enough, because we can't rely on batteries that will be replaced in two to three years." (Reporter Feng Zhiwen, an Israeli journalist)
