Japanese machine tool tool market analysis in June

The total output value of machine tools in Japan reached 127.64 billion yen in June, an increase of 5.9% from May and an increase of 34.1% from the same period of last year. It was also the first increase for three consecutive months this year. The total order volume has reached 100 billion yen for nine consecutive months since October last year, and has exceeded 120 billion yen for four consecutive months since March this year.

It is predicted that the demand for machine tools in Japan and abroad will be driven by the economic recovery in the future, especially in the export of Japanese electronics and precision machinery.

Domestic orders rose by 16.2% in May, with a total output value of 42.66 billion yen. It has continued to grow since April, up 33.1% from the same period last year. It is also a 12-month increase since June last year.

In major industrial sectors, machine orders in June increased by 20.5% compared with May, automobile manufacturing increased by 15.4%, electronics and precision machinery increased by 7.4%, and aviation, shipbuilding and transportation equipment increased by 49.4%.

Foreign orders increased by 1.4% from May, with a total output value of 84.98 billion yen, the first increase since April; an increase of 34.6% over the same period last year, and a year-on-year growth of 8 consecutive months since November last year.

In terms of market areas, Japan’s Asian orders have fallen by 3.8% since May, with a total output value of 42.72 billion yen, an increase of 70.9% over the same period last year. European orders have fallen by 2.3% since May, with a total output value of 16.17 billion yen, an increase of 26.7% over the same period last year. Although North American orders have increased by 12.6% since May, the total output value reached 23.35 billion yen, but it was down 1.8% from the same period last year.
