With the continuous improvement of laser technology, the development of non-contact detection systems has been promoted. This system is capable of safely measuring smaller tools than ever before. A laser beam is moved between the transmitter and receiver (mounted on the machine table or on the opposite side) so that the beam can pass through the work area. When the tool passes through the beam, the luminous flux detected by the receiver is reduced, thus generating a trigger pulse; if the detected luminous flux is not reduced, the system issues a tool breakage signal. As a result, Ducati has carefully analyzed and found that the Renishaw non-contact tool breakage detection system based on innovative laser technology can solve this problem.
New tool damage detection system
The Renishaw NC4 Non-Contact Tool Breakage Detection System features ultra-small laser transmitters and receivers measuring only 30mm (diameter) x 35mm (height) for fast non-contact tool and tool breakage detection where previously not available. The system uses the laser tool setting system to detect broken tools, which can automatically carry out the machining process. Even in the case of coolant, the workpiece will not be scrapped due to damage of the tool.
When a machining process is completed, the machine tool spindle carries the beam area of ​​the tool through the inspection system at a specified height. If the cutting edge is broken, the luminous flux received by the beam receiver will not change and the laser system will give an alarm.
