Japan's domestic machine tool demand fell to 42.45 billion yen in February 2014 from 42.256 billion yen in September 2013, a decline of 18.5% for the third consecutive month. This trend may indicate that the equipment investment dividends for small and medium-sized enterprises in Japan's consumption tax increase and government manufacturing subsidies have been basically exhausted.
According to the latest statistics, in February 2014, the total orders of the eight major machine tool companies in Japan were 40.764 billion yen, a year-on-year increase of 32.1%, and the year-on-year growth in June. Among them, external demand was 26.494 billion yen, a year-on-year increase of 34.9%, and external demand increased to 65.0%. Domestic demand was 14.271 billion yen. Although it has been growing for the seventh consecutive month, it has fallen for the third consecutive month and is consistent with the decline in overall domestic demand in Japan.
Japanese machine tool companies feel more intuitive: Daxie Machine Tool indicates that Japanese SME equipment investment has fallen, while demand for large and medium-sized auto companies and related industries continues to be high. Makino milling machine also said that high-end industries such as aviation are active in querying machine tools. DMG Mori Seiki's internal demand for machine tools in February was 2.94 billion yen, which was much lower than the level of November in the past three months. Domestic demand in Japan will fall back to the level before July 2013 in the coming months.
